Insights to the future

"I think there is a 'shorter' view of the future here [in Africa]; maybe only as far out as the next meal”.

What are the implications of these words, by CJ Jones, for futures studies? Join the forum on this issue.

Enabling Filipinos to create their future communities

This web site examines our choices for the future. Will we live in a future dictated by others? Or can we create a future envisioned by a compelling image of the life, the community, the governance and the environment that we prefer?

This site encourages foresight at least one generation into the future, preferably longer. Here we anticipate some of the changes rushing at us from the future. We examine ways to co-create a preferred future and turn that vision into an action plan, while acting ethically on behalf of future generations. (See pledge). Such a futures process applies equally to an individual, to a work unit or to a department, an organization, an industry or a community.

Tony Stevenson challenges long-held assumptions and encourages learning through foresight – learning from the future. How can this be, when the future is yet to exist? Well, we can imagine the future. It is in our minds -- and in our hands.

We cannot predict the long-term future because the cross-flow of change is too complex and hard to predict. But, we can question the future in order to learn from it. And this learning can help create the future.

 You may book Tony to:
• address your next seminar or conference;
• design and facilitate a futures workshop; or
• research and write a special background briefing.

And, you are invited to discuss the issues raised here, and how to create opportunities, by contributing to the forum, “Insights to the future”.
